ABN AMRO Private Banking will not integrate with Fortis

3 October 2008

Fortis announced on 29 September 2008 that it will sell its interest in ABN AMRO. This involves the parts of ABN AMRO that have not yet been integrated, including ABN AMRO Private Banking.

ABN AMRO is legally and managerially separate to Fortis. ABN AMRO is one of the better capitalized banks in the world with a Tier I Ratio (the relationship between our capital and our risk-related assets) in excess of 15% at the half year. This ratio is well in excess of any regulatory requirement and internal targets.

The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) has set stringent capital and liquidity requirements for ABN AMRO throughout the transition period and we are operating comfortably within these limits. Any release of capital from ABN AMRO would require prior approval by the Dutch Central Bank.

Clients will be informed as the position regarding who will acquire the ABN AMRO activities from Fortis becomes clear. Please meanwhile be assured that our personal service will remain at a consistently high level in the time ahead.
